International Standard Classification of Education - 1997 version

ISCED97 is comprised of standard concepts, definitions and classifications that provide a framework for the compilation and presentation of international education statistics and indicators. It covers all organized and sustained learning activities for children, youth and adults including those with special educational needs. By providing a sound basis for comparisons between different education systems, ISCED97 aids policy-makers and others who are looking to learn from the international experience in developing education systems and to benchmark their performance with other countries.

Individual country ISCED mappings are presented here to show how ISCED standards are applied to the education system. The UIS produces ISCED mappings for each country in consultation with national statisticians, which makes this the official source for ISCED mappings.

Country ISCED mappings can be accessed by clicking here.

For questions or clarification regarding specific mappings or more generally about the ISCED classification and adapting mappings to your needs, please contact the UIS at information@uis.unesco.org.

ISCED97 is available in all six official UN languages.
