A platform to collect and compare cultural statistics globally

The UIS has developed a new framework for cultural statistics based on consultations with experts and policymakers from around the world. It was specifically designed to help countries at all stages of development create their own surveys to track the flows of their cultural goods and services.

Our goal is to lay the foundation for new surveys and indicators to measure the socio-economic impact of culture and the diversity of expressions. The UIS is currently collecting statistics related to the film industry in its Member States. At the same time, we are developing methodologies to measure key issues, such as cultural participation, which encompasses a wide range of activities, including a visit to a national heritage site, learning to play a musical instrument or involvement in a traditional festival.

 What's New?

From International Blockbusters to National Hits

A roadmap for cultural statistics

How can we begin to measure the socio-economic impact of cultural industries or the diversity of cultural expressions? In this interview, Lydia Deloumeaux, a UIS specialist on culture, highlights the challenges of implementing the 2009 UNESCO Framework for Cultural Statistics.
